I recently worked with someone who prided themselves on being steady.
They didn’t complain.
They didn’t fall apart.
They handled things.
That strength had carried them far.
But over time, it became heavy.
They realized they didn’t know how to ask for support without feeling like they were failing at something fundamental. Being strong had quietly turned into being alone.
In our work, we didn’t try to dismantle that strength.
We honored it.
We got curious about when it formed, what it protected, and why it was still working so hard.
As that part softened, something unexpected happened.
They didn’t become less capable.
They became more connected.
Strength stopped meaning “I can handle this by myself.”
It started meaning “I don’t have to.”
That shift changed their leadership, their relationships, and the way they treated themselves.
If strength feels heavier, and lonelier, than ever, you may just be ready for a different definition of strength.
