The Study Gallery which recently presented the work of Buckminster Fuller will soon be filled with the personal work of the photo alumni, Ray Howk. For a little under a year, Todd Davis (alumni) and Professor Antonio Martinez have been coordinating and planning this exhibit with the assistance of Sharp Musuem Curator, T. Lance, and Kelly Fisher-Bishop of Washington University.

A shout to Professor Emeritus Dan Overturf for connecting Todd with Antonio at Paul Elledge's photo exhibition in Fall 2025.

Who knows, maybe Fall 2027 will exhibit the work of another photo alumni.

Fisher-Bishop will be lecturing on Howk's work on Sept 12th at 1pm at Sharp Museum.

The photographic work of an SIU Carbondale alumnus who turned activities on city streets into his own playground will be highlighted in an exhibition starting next month at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Sharp Museum.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

Where I Sleep, presents artists that investigate the nuances of the “home” through various photographic practices. Each artist examines the complexities of connecting to a physical space, as their various perspectives operate under the commonality of our notion of home. These works draw us to consider the isolated opportunities seated inside an individual’s sense of home–including the potential to encourage memory, seeing, and story.

Accepted works include photographic prints, and we encourage artists to think beyond a photo on a wall, whether it be projections, sculptural, in book form, and more.

Seeking artists that investigate the nuances of home through photographic practices.

Professors Smith and Martinez made 90’s rock themed band portraits at today’s Art Education Nation lunch hour for the rockalypse chalk painting event. Faculty and young artists jumped in on the fun.
