JOIN US FOR THE ANNUAL JOHN ALLEN SYMPOSIUM!

The 2026 John Allen Symposium will be held on Thursday, April 9th in the Morris Library's Guyon Auditorium. For registration information, please complete the online form below. We welcome all SIU Recreation BS alumni, SIU REC master's alumni and all SIU MS in Human Sciences Sport and Recreation alumni, as well as faculty and supporters of these programs to join our current students for the annual professional development event, held annually in memory of Dr. John Allen. Congratulations to the Student Recreation Society crew for winning not one but 2 awards at the 50th annual Great Cardboard Regatta held on SIU's campus lake. The crew won their heat and made it to the Survivor's round. The Valkyrie was a work of art and won the People's Choice award as well as the 'Best Use of Cardboard' trophy 🏆! It was a fun day in the 'Dale!

Congratulations to Maelin Abbott-Rinehart for receiving the John Allen Memorial Scholarship award at the 2025 John Allen Symposium for outstanding academic work, community service and professional development.
