Built in 1961, Palisades Elementary School is the only public school in Capistrano Beach. Palisades sits on a bluff, surrounded by homes, near the Pacific Ocean. There is a beautiful ocean view from throughout the school, and the community enjoys utilizing the school after hours and on the weekends. oughout the year due to the pleasant California coastal weather and “totally cool” waves at breaks like Doheny just up the road. The Palisades staff is committed to preparing all students for the 21st century. Dedicated teachers at each grade level provide students with learning experiences that are interesting, relevant, and meaningful to their everyday lives. Palisades’ educational program is based on the Common Core State Standards and Capistrano Unified School District’s goals and objectives. Today’s students are preparing to enter a world in which colleges and businesses are demanding more than ever before. To ensure all students are ready for success after high school, the Common Core State Standards establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in math and English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade. Our theme for the 2016-17 school year is "Creative Across the Curriculum." Students need to know how to read, do math, etc., while also solving problems and doing assignments creatively. Albert Einstein states, "Creativity is intelligence having fun." Physician, psychologist, author, and inventor Edward de Bono says, "There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns." Palisades has energetic parents who assist staff members and students throughout the school year in the classroom, front office, and throughout the school. There is an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Palisades. Their ongoing support has provided the school with many programs and assemblies. Elected parents and staff members on School Site Council review programs for Palisades, oversee categorical money and grants, and review Local Control Funding (LCF).
