Spent a little time this weekend at taco fest in Ann Arbor and was super excited to see End Of Oak Street had a spot. (If you put a 🦖🦕 in something you automatically have my full attention.) Can’t wait until Aug. 14th to see this movie! After that I went to the cutest spot for some drinks with my bestie. I have the cutest end to the weekend, but you’ll have to wait until next time for that. 🤭

Located in Manchester, Vermont, Hildene was built in 1905 by Robert Todd Lincoln (the only child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to survive into adulthood). Robert built this mansion as a country estate for his family.

Because construction didn’t begin until 40 years after President Lincoln’s assassination, Abraham Lincoln never actually set foot here. However, Hildene is home to some incredible historical artifacts.

🪞 The Oval Mirror: The White House mirror that Abraham Lincoln likely looked into for the last time before leaving for Ford’s Theatre.
🎩 The Iconic Stovepipe Hat: Hildene displays one of only three original stovepipe hats left in existence today.

Three generations of Lincolns lived on this estate for 70 years. When the President’s great-granddaughter, Peggy Beckwith, passed away in 1975, the home was left in peril. Local community members rallied together to form The Friends of Hildene in 1978, purchasing and restoring the property to preserve the Lincoln family legacy forever.

Fun Fact: With the passing of Lincoln’s last surviving great-grandchild, Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, in 1985, there are officially no direct living descendants of Abraham Lincoln today.
