Geographical Range: Eastern Africa
Habitat: African savanna
Conservation Status: Endangered

Things you already know about giraffes:

🦒 Giraffes are the tallest living land animal.
🦒 Giraffes have hardly any competition when it comes to finding food thanks to their long necks.
🦒 Giraffes are gentle creatures. Though males spar for a mate by knocking their necks together, they rarely bite each other.

But, did you know?

🦒 The species has incredibly sharp senses. Their excellent sight helps them spot moving objects from long distances. Their spot-on listening skills help them stay alert for predators, such as lions!
🦒 The reticulated giraffe is endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, and some subspecies of giraffe are even critically endangered. Many giraffes are hunted for their meat and body parts, which are used for bracelets and bowstrings.
🦒 The Zoo participates in the Association for Zoos and Aquariums Reticulated Giraffe Species Survival Plan to help protect this species.
