Meet the Students of Founders Seminary: Tommy Payne

Tommy Payne joined the MDiv program at Founders Seminary in Spring 2026. A native Floridian, he is from North Fort Myers and recently accepted the call to pastor a church in Clewiston, Florida.

His desire is to “shepherd God’s people with greater clarity, conviction, and biblical depth,” and he hopes to become “further equipped for faithful, long-term pastoral ministry” through his time at Founders Seminary.

He is amazed at the world God has made and enjoys going on camping adventures with his wife and their four children.

What we see in the Reformation is that certain truths of Scripture such as justification sola fide and salvation sola gratia make such a massive impact upon people’s lives that they are transformed by them. And thus the Reformation begins to make a change in the life and practice of the Christian church through the ministry of the Word.” – Dr. Christopher Cleveland, Associate Professor of Biblical, Historical, and Systematic Theology

This semester, Dr. Christopher Cleveland is teaching a course on the Reformation. This class will trace the Protestant Reformation from before the Reformation period to shortly after and study the lives and doctrine of the major Reformers in Germany, England, Scotland, France, and the Netherlands.
