Meet the Students: Cameron Sumner
Cameron Sumner, a student in the Master of Divinity program, is from Tifton, Georgia, and came to Founders Seminary as part of the inaugural class in 2025.
“Since I have arrived here, I have been most benefited in the way that I read and understand the Bible. The classes I have taken so far have opened up and shed light on so many things I never saw before. The Scriptures are truly alive and full of God’s glory. My heart and mind have been raised up to see the glory of God for myself in greater ways through my studies,” Sumner shared.
Sumner seeks a vocation in pastoral ministry and teaches sixth graders at The Fletcher School, a classical Christian cottage school in Cape Coral.

“Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.” – John Bunyan

“Those who look to Him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” – Psalm 34:5-8

This Spring, Dr. Tom Ascol, President and Professor of Pastoral Theology, taught Ecclesiology, a class that considers the biblical foundations, theological concerns, historical development, and practical responsibilities with particular emphasis on the role of local churches in the post-modern world.
Followers of the “congregational way,” Baptists have worked to develop a theologically integrated ecclesiology, and this course explores the contours of that development by introducing the nature and work of the church.
Regarding this class, Dr. Ascol shared, “A confessionally Baptist view of the church is a theologically integrated ecclesiology. What we believe about God, man, Christ, and salvation informs how we live in the church.”

“The Gospel is about much more than how we get saved and go to heaven. The Gospel is about the work of Christ saturating every aspect of our lives.” – Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr., Founding President of Founders Seminary

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” –Matthew 6:25-29
