Where The Learning Continues-WTLC

WTLC provides a post-high school educational experience at West Texas A&M University for high functioning young adults with intellectual disabilities.

Created in 2002, Where the Learning Continues (WTLC) provides a post-high school educational experience for high-functioning young adults with intellectual challenges. WT’s program is one of only three similar programs in the state. During the four-year program students receive instruction in reading, mathematics, writing and computing, reinforcing subjects learned in high school and further build

ing skills for independence. Students attend class Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 11 am on the WT campus during the fall and spring semesters. After completing 8 semesters students participate in the WTAMU commencement ceremonies earning a certificate of completion. Students pay $1500 in tuition per semester. As part of the tuition, students receive access to the computer center and Activities Center as well as free admission to football games and fine arts events. Since they are not matriculated WTAMU students, housing is not available. Applications for the program can be obtained through the Education on Demand office. The completed application will include contact information, health information, a school AEP and references. If the student meets all eligibility requirements, an interveiw with the student and parent(s) is scheduled with a panel including a WTLC parent, a WT representative, and the Education on Demand director. Upon the approval of the panel, the student begins WTLC at the start of the next long semester, either fall or spring.
