WTAMU Distinguished Lecture Series

The Distinguished Lecture Series was created in 2007 to enhance student education. Events are free and open to the public.

The mission is to invite persons of national prominence to the WTAMU campus to expose students to experts and well-known speakers. The Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) was created in 2007 to enhance student education. The mission of the DLS is to invite persons of national prominence to the WTAMU campus in order to expose students to experts and well-known speakers. Since 2007, DLS has sponsored

speakers from various walks of life to expose WTAMU students and the community to a variety of viewpoints. DLS-funded events are free and open to the public.

Meet our latest DLS speaker: David Korevaar! Well known for his Bach recordings, Korevaar is the current distinguished professor of piano at the University of Colorado-Boulder, a member of the Takacs Quartet, and a founding member of the Boulder Piano Quartet. As a part of this semester's DLS event, he’ll perform during the Grace Hamilton Piano Festival here at WT on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Mary Moody Northen Hall! The event is free for WT students and open to the public.

✨🎶A special evening recital from featured violinist .violin. Originally from the greater New York area, he has received international recognition for his musicianship and “soulful” playing (The Arts Desk). Lin currently serves as Concertmaster of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and co-Principal Guest Concertmaster of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Nataliya Sukhina, assistant professor of practice in collaborative piano at Texas Tech, and WT’s , Harrington Lecturer in Violin, also performed with Lin. It was a wonderful night filled with music! 🎶✨

Join us this evening for our first DLS event of the semester!
Philosopher and author Dr. Eli Kramer will speak at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Complex Recital Hall on the topic of "Academic Responsibility as Rome Burns." A reception will follow.

It was an honor to hear from award-winning writer Christian Wallace tonight at the final Distinguished Lecture Series event of the semester hosted by the Center for the Study of the American West for the Garry L. Nall Lecture in Western Studies.

Wallace said he had a calling to tell stories, and he pointed out that "all stories are really about one thing: home."

There weren't any bookstores or even a Walmart in Andrews when he grew up, but he said his saving grace was the public library and a librarian who inspired his love of books. When he read a line by C.S. Lewis that prompted him to feel what it was like to have sherbet melt on his tongue, he decided he wanted to do that, too -- to make people feel something with language.

He said oil has had a profound impact on him as a storyteller. When he worked in the oil fields, he kept notes of observations in a small notebook "before they fitted away" -- a notebook you can see in one of the actor's pockets in Landman, a series which he co-wrote with Taylor Sheridan.

His first article in Texas Monthly was "Learning to Roughneck."
