Our preschool classroom was filled with love and learning on Valentine's Day! ❤️ Through hands-on activities, we explored stories, creativity, and early learning skills.

The Love Monster by Rachel Bright inspired us to create our own Love Monsters using Play-Doh, googly eyes, beads, and pipe cleaners. This activity allowed us to express our creativity and practice fine motor skills.

We also practiced fine motor skills and early math concepts with our heart threading activity, threading beads onto pipe cleaners based on the numbers shown on each heart. This activity strengthened our pincer grasp and gave us a hands-on way to practice number recognition and counting.

Pattern building was also on the agenda, where we created and followed our own patterns using hearts. This activity helped us develop our early math reasoning and problem-solving skills.

To celebrate the holiday, we decorated Valentine's cookies and enjoyed a heart-themed lunch, complete with a special craft made with love for our families.

Learning through play is an amazing way to connect stories, math, creativity, and fine motor development in ways that are both fun and meaningful. 💕

Our holiday activities were festive and intentional! Using a HighScope Plan–Do–Review approach, children first planned their ideas, created their projects, and then reviewed and shared what they made.

From reindeer pancakes 🦌🥞 and Christmas cookies, to canvas tote gifts for parents and Christmas light name puzzles, each activity supported fine-motor skills, name recognition, and independence all through hands-on learning.

✨ As we head into the new year, we’ll continue this approach with a review week, revisiting letters A–I through engaging, hands-on centers to strengthen confidence and mastery before moving forward.

Merry Christmas 🧑‍🎄 🎁

We hope all our littles enjoyed their goodies from Ms. Tara and Ms.Courtney. The kids worked so hard on their parent gifts 🎁 🌲

We teach letters using an intentional blend of explicit teaching and hands-on exploration. Children learn through seeing, hearing, and feeling.

Process art and group art allow children to physically explore letter shapes, sounds, and meaning. Open-ended materials strengthen fine-motor skills and deepen understanding with focus more on the process rather than a perfect product. Creating together encourages language, collaboration, and social learning as children talk through ideas and make connections as a group.

After reading ‘Mouse Builds a House’ students created a house for the letter H. For the letter I we read ‘Inside the Igloo’ and used duplo blocks to stamp Igloos.

Our first month back to preschool in the books. We’ve worked on mastering circle time (including our crisscross applesauce on our mats and listening ears).

We’re getting into our letter recognition and letter sounds while focusing on being kind and helpful bucket fillers 🪣 ❤️

This week we’re learning all about ourselves! 💛 We read Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and started building our classroom bucket wall to practice kindness and making good choices. We’re also exploring shapes and colors through fun, hands-on activities that help preschoolers connect learning to their everyday world. 🌈🟢🔺

As we continue our All About Me theme, we’re beginning to discover our five senses and how they help us explore and understand the world around us. 👀👂👃👅✋
