The Canton R-V Board of Education has approved changes to the Junior High and High School Student Handbook. These changes help students keep up with schoolwork while still holding them responsible for their attendance and behavior.
1. Unexcused Absences
Students can now earn full credit (100%) for assignments and tests they miss, even if their absence is unexcused. The timeline for completing assignments and tests will follow the Make-up Work and Test Make-up sections of the Student Handbook. Students should communicate with their individual teachers regarding the timeline.
Students who have too many unexcused absences will face these consequences ranging from detention to in-school suspension.
2. Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)
Students who are suspended from school will still have chances to complete their schoolwork.
- Assignments: Students can earn up to 75% credit. This was previously 60%.
- Tests, quizzes, and final projects: Students can earn full credit (100%). This was previously 60%.
- Suspensions of 10 days or fewer: Students will make up tests when they return to school.
- Suspensions of 11 days or more: The school will work with students to make a plan for completing tests during their suspension.
