Resources to help teachers confidently equip their students to excel in math. Shannon is an international educational consultant, author, and producer.

She has more than 15 years of teaching experience and is well known for her practical information and enthusiastic style. Shannon works with hundreds of teachers each year within her M³: Molding Math Mindsets professional development & Coaching Series, which embeds numeracy concepts within 21st century teaching and reasoning in mathematics. Shannon is the creator of the Math Mights, a set of characters that represent math strategies to help students learn to solve problems more than one way, the My Counting Buddy math manipulative, the subitizing superhero Dotson and his Deck o’ Dots, and she has authored many other classroom and curriculum resources to help teachers mold math mindsets in the classroom. Most recently, Shannon has brought the Math Mights to life as a television series on PBS in conjunction with the Michigan Learning Channel. She has written and produced 200 episodes of The Math Mights Show, as well as countless video tutorials for math games and math strategies available exclusively for M³ Members!

🧠 Thinking Thursday: How do you see the number 73?

You might see seventy-three. But what if we slow down and think about what the number is actually made of?

In this video, Value Pak helps students build 73 by counting the tens first, then the ones - making the place value visible and giving students another way to think about the number.

Because sometimes, seeing a number differently is the first step toward understanding it more deeply.

Kristin recently modeled a 4th grade place value lesson at Multicultural Academy, using the Value Pak and CPA to help students build the basics of place value.

In math, 2 can be 200, but it can also be 20. It all depends on where it is.

That’s the power of hands-on learning: helping students see the value behind the digit, not just the digit itself.

A great day of professional learning with the teachers at Clio Elementary! 📚✨

About 30 K–5 teachers who are new to SIS spent the day with Cindy and Kristin digging into the math behind the math.

K–2 focused on Numeracy & Number Sense, while grades 3–5 explored Multiplication & Division Strategies, building a deeper understanding of the strategies students use, why those strategies work, and how to support students in making meaningful mathematical connections.

Great math professional learning isn’t just about adding another strategy to your toolbox. It’s about understanding the why, anticipating student thinking, and knowing how to use that understanding to make instruction more purposeful. ❤️

Through our partnership with Genesee ISD, we’re bringing quality, in-person math professional development to educators across all grade levels, from kindergarten through high school, as well as administrators.
