I had a fulfilling and successful career as a biologist in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry for over 15 years, where I was blessed with the opportunity to work on drug discovery efforts for chronic pain, spinal muscular atrophy, cystic fibrosis, oncology and more. I spent the last 4 years as Team Leader mentoring and leading a group of scientist performing early discovery and translational drug screening in oncology. I had great opportunities to continue my scientific career, however, I knew it was time for me to venture out and do something that has always been in my heart and that is to pour into the next generation from an early age. About 5 years ago, I stumbled on a video on social media recorded at a day care center, in it, a sweet infant boy was being repeatedly struck by a toddler for a lengthy period time, whereby inattentive daycare personnel stood at a distance neglecting their precious charge. To say this video made an impression on me would be an understatement; it made my heart ache for the child and his parents. I sat at lunch time at work and shared the video with my friends where I spontaneously and passionately described to them how I would run a daycare if I was ever a provider. It was just a random conversation, I had never thought of running a day care prior to this but unbeknownst to me, a seed was planted that afternoon. I have had many people tell me over the years that I am great with kids and that I should look into a career that is related to children, but I always simply ignored it. My infertility journey to have my daughter and being inspired by the awesome daycare provider that took care of my daughter while I was a working mom, revived the passion in me to work with children. So like a grasshopper, I took a leap of faith, left behind a socially well-regarded “scientist” title (that always made my mom proud :-)) to venture out into what I believe I was created to do. I tell you this story to express to you that I did not enter this line of work for financial reasons or because I was in search of a second career. I chose this path because I believe I have a great deal to pour into children and I would love to work with you the parents to care for your little ones physically, mentally and emotionally.
