ποΈ Exploring Our Senses Through Art! π¨
Our preschoolers had so much fun learning about their five senses through hands-on art experiences! We explored what it feels like to create without using our sense of sight and created texture collages to discover how different materials feel.
π¨ Painting With Our Eyes Closed: Painting with our eyes closed encouraged the children to rely on their other senses, especially touch and hearing. It helped them understand that we use our senses to explore and learn about the world around us. This activity also encouraged children to slow down, listen to directions, use their imagination, and experience the process of creating in a new way.
ποΈ Texture Collages: Creating texture collages allowed children to explore materials that were smooth, rough, soft, bumpy, fuzzy, and hard. They practiced describing what they felt and comparing different textures while strengthening their sensory awareness.
β Fine Motor Skills: Picking up, placing, gluing, and manipulating different materials helped strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers.
π§ Cognitive Development: Children practiced observing, comparing, sorting, describing, and making connections between their senses and the world around them.
π¬ Language Development: Talking about how materials felt and what they noticed introduced new descriptive vocabulary and encouraged children to communicate their ideas.
π‘ Problem-Solving & Confidence: Creating without sight encouraged children to think differently, try new strategies, and become comfortable exploring outside of their usual routines.
Most importantly, these activities gave our preschoolers the opportunity to learn through touching, seeing, listening, creating, and exploring! We love turning hands-on experiences into meaningful learning opportunities. ποΈπ¨
