🪨As HEOP Summer 2026 came to a close, students took part in one of our favorite traditions: the annual hike! 🥾⛰️ This year, we climbed Cathedral Rock Mountain and were joined by our friends (and SLU HEOP Alums) Samantha J. Harris (‘10) and Terrance Harris (‘07)

Before beginning the journey, each student was asked to find a rock to carry with them up the mountain. No matter the shape, size, or color, that rock became a symbol of the fears, anxieties, doubts, and negative thoughts they wished to leave behind. With each step, students carried those burdens with them until it was finally time to let them go.

As the summit came into view, students said their goodbyes and launched their rocks away, leaving behind what no longer serves them. Standing at the top, they were reminded of just how far they’ve come — not only on the trail, but throughout the summer. We are so proud of their growth, resilience, and courage, and we can’t wait to see where the path ahead takes them❤️🤎✨

🥎 This past Saturday, students and mentors came together for our annual HEOP Summer Softball Game!

With mentors stepping up as team captains, five innings flew by as students showcased teamwork, sportsmanship, and plenty of competitive spirit. Congratulations to Team Anthropology for taking home the win🏆

From big hits to great plays and lots of laughs along the way, the afternoon was a wonderful reminder that some of the best memories are made outside the classroom🫶🏼We’re proud of the community our students continue to build with one another each day❤️🤎

Sweet treats and even sweeter connections🍦

This week, students, faculty, and staff came together for our Ice Cream Social, an opportunity to step outside of familiar circles, meet new faces, and build connections across the HEOP community🏫

We’re incredibly proud of our students for stepping outside of their comfort zones and challenging themselves to seek out new conversations and connections. Whether it was striking up a conversation with a fellow student, faculty member, or staff member, they approached the event with openness and curiosity, helping strengthen the supportive community that makes HEOP so special!!

Here’s to a summer full of growth, support, and plenty more opportunities to connect❤️🤎

Canoe Trip Day🛶☀️

After a quick lesson from former director Bill Short on the basics of canoeing, students headed straight to the water to put their new skills into practice. Paddling down St. Lawrence’s Little River, they worked together to navigate the water, build confidence and communication, and enjoy the afternoon outdoors!

We’re proud to report that every canoe made it there and back safely — with not a single pairing tipping over🎉🛶

To wrap up the adventure, students gathered for a group photo to celebrate a successful day on the river and another summer memory made together💙

Hi everyone! My name is Bree (she/her), I am from Manhattan, NY, and this summer I will be serving as the HEOP Program Assistant and Social Media Manager. I am an English major and am working toward a minor in Digital Film & Media.

My favorite St. Lawrence tradition is the Route 11 Rivalry with Clarkson. Everyone gets into the spirit of it, even if they are not typically sports fans, which makes it a fun and exciting part of campus life.

What I am most looking forward to this HEOP Summer is helping the incoming class feel adjusted, supported, and prepared for their first semester at St. Lawrence. The transition to college can be challenging, and I am excited to help students navigate that experience and make the process as smooth as possible. I look forward to meeting all of you this summer!

Hi everyone! My name is Amelia (she/her), and I will be serving as the PCA mentor for the HEOP Summer Program. I am from Schenectady, New York, and I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Art.

A fun fact about me is that I love ceramics. My favorite St. Lawrence tradition is Springfest, and what I am most looking forward to this summer is the Community-Based Learning (CBL) component, especially the opportunity to work with Canton Day Care. I am excited to meet the incoming class, get to know all of you, and support you throughout your HEOP Summer experience!

Hi everyone! My name is Azure, (she/her), and I will be serving as the Psychology mentor for the HEOP Summer Program. I am from Brooklyn, New York, and I use any pronouns. I am majoring in Psychology.

A fun fact about me is that I play the piano! What I am most looking forward to this summer is meeting and getting to know the incoming HEOP class and helping you as you
