📣 Plain Local Community! 📣

It’s an exciting time to live in Plain Local! Come be a part of the conversation and the plans we’re making to move Plain Township forward!

Please join us, school district leaders, and community members for a Community Dialogue Meeting on Wednesday, November 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GlenOak High School in the main commons (enter through Door #17 in the upper parking lot).

We need all voices in the room: families, community members, business owners, and stakeholders. Together with our partners from Woolpert and Sol Harris Day Architects, we’ll review options for addressing our facility challenges and gather your feedback to guide future decisions.

Free childcare and refreshments will be provided, and all community members are welcome to attend.

More information about the masters facility plan is available at the link below and in the comments.

Thank you to everyone who has stayed engaged in the Plain Local Schools Facility Master Planning process. As we continue this important work, two key updates are now available for review on our district website:
Futures Conference Summary Report : A detailed look at the ideas, discussions, and survey results gathered from more than 150 community participants who attended the September 3 Futures Conference and the over 400 online participants.
Committee Meeting #1 Presentation: A summary of the steering committee’s first meeting on September 24, which includes facility data, community input themes, and next steps in the planning process.
Both documents are available for download at https://www.plainlocal.org/future.

We also invite the entire Plain Local community to attend our next Community Dialogue on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. in the GlenOak High School main commons. During this meeting, Woolpert and Sol Harris Day Architects will present a range of facility options, along with associated costs. Attendees will have the opportunity to review these options, share feedback, and help shape the future of our schools. Guests should park in the upper lot and enter through Door 17 (student entrance).

We value your continued involvement as we plan for the future of Plain Local Schools.

Message this evening (9/11/25) from Brent May regarding GlenOak

Plain Local Families,

Please note the following message is a transcript of the all-call that was sent to high school families this evening, September 11, 2025. In an effort to ensure all families have the same information, we are sharing the message that was sent to the high school families this evening below. Thank you.

Good evening, this is Brent May from Plain Local Schools. I'm calling tonight to make everyone aware, that a threat was posted, by a high school student to a Snapchat group, stating that "people better not come to school tomorrow". We immediately worked with law enforcement, made the identification of the student, and visited the family.

We spoke with the with the student and the student will not be attending GlenOak High School tomorrow. I want to assure everyone through working with law enforcement, there is not a threat to the high school, and I want to thank our kids...we have received multiple tips this evening from the Say Something anonymous tip line. Our kids did a great job letting us know, and we were able to act swiftly and in coordination with law enforcement. Again, there's no threat to GlenOak High School, law enforcement has been involved, spoken, and visited with the family, and at this point, we are good to go for school tomorrow. If you have any, additional questions, you can always contact the high school tomorrow morning.

Parents, there's a lot going on in our world right now. Please talk with your kids about what they say, what they're doing, and what they're posting. This is unacceptable and we are not going to condone this behavior. We will take as swift of action as we can to ensure that everyone understands we're not going to put up with this.

Again, there is no threat to the high school. And if there is more information, I will communicate that tomorrow morning, and I hope you have a great evening. Thank you.

📣📣All call from Brent May:
**Key take away- State required cell phone policy change

Good evening, Plain Local families. This is Brent May, Superintendent. Welcome back, and here we go! We are getting ready for another exciting school year. I hope you've had a relaxing and enjoyable summer with family and friends. Our staff is back this week, and I can tell you they're ready to go.

The start of the year can be a busy time, and I want to thank you in advance for your patience and grace as we navigate those first few days. We'll begin with our transition day for grades five, seven, and nine on August 20th, and welcome all students on August 21st with our littlest eagles in pre-K and kindergarten, starting on August 27th and 28th.

The reason for my call is that this year, all Ohio schools, including Plain Local, must follow the new state law regarding cell phones in school buildings. This year, students are required to have their cell phones on silent and stored away during instructional time. Again, students are not permitted to have their cell phones out during instructional time. They need to be on silent and put away. Students will be permitted to have their phones during lunch, study hall and class change, and during afterschool events. We understand there may be exceptions for medical needs or emergencies, and we'll work with families to make sure those situations are handled appropriately.

I wanted to personally update you on this and encourage families to start this discussion with their children. We will work with your kids as we transition back to school. Again, this is a state requirement, and everyone must follow the policy. I am looking forward to another great year.

Can't wait to see the kids back. Have a great evening and Go Eagles!
