Cañon City JROTC hosted their annual Raider competition this past Saturday where 16 teams vied for the top spot. Cadets ran a 5k up Skyline and completed events like the rope bridge, HMMWV Pull, obstacle course, flexed arm hang, and archery target sprint course. Great job cadets!

Cadet Khristian Schaetzle has earned the VFW Voice of Democracy award, and is now on the state level for his essay. He wrote about patriotism, and how we as students show our patriotism. If he wins state then he will win an all expenses paid trip to Washington DC, to show and present his essay. If he wins Nationals then we will win a 35,000 dollar scholarship for collage.

JROTC Raider cadets competed in their first competition at Fountain Fort Carson High School today, resulting in 3rd place overall for fastest individual obstacle course time (Coleton Godfrey) and 3rd place overall for fastest team obstacle course. Great job cadets!

My JROTC cadets spent the weekend in Leadville, CO (elevation 10,152 feet) for Memorial Day honoring the sacrifices of the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. The division trained at Camp Hale a few miles down the road from Leadville from ‘42-‘44 and defeated the Germans in Italy. Cadets also did a mini-sraff ride at Camp Hale. The camp was built in 7 months and was removed by German POWs after the war. Climb to Glory!
