NOTICE TO PARENTS: Transportation Department Special Saturday Hours

Please be advised that the Transportation Department will be working this Saturday, August 22nd from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM to assist families with bus route inquiries. If you have any questions regarding your child's bus route, bus number, pickup location, or schedule, staff members will be available to assist you.

The St. Landry Parish School Board is accepting applications for membership on the Special Education Advisory Council.

This council will meet three (3) times per year to provide advice and recommendations regarding special education policies, procedures, and resources. The council will also engage in outreach activities to the community at large to increase the level of knowledge, support, and collaboration with respect to special education.

Join Gifting Grace Project for a Whataburger Benefit Night on Thursday, August 13, from 6–8 PM at participating Whataburger locations in Breaux Bridge, New Iberia, Opelousas, Eunice, Youngsville, and Crowley. Simply dine in or use the drive-thru, and 25% of your purchase will be donated to support local children experiencing homelessness. Thank you for helping make a difference in our community!

Back to School Information:

🐊 All parents that have a student registered at Cankton elementary should have received a JCall text within the last hour outlining back to school information. If you did not receive the text message, please contact the school to ensure we have received your enrollment application and if you are a returning student that we have your current phone number

🐊 meet and greet will be held on Monday, August 10 from 4:00 to 6:00

Meet the teachers; pay fees; buy spirit shirts; drop off school supplies; and get back to school pictures in front of our awesome backdrop!

🐊 Cashless - the district is shifting to cashless forms of payment

You will need to pay with either a debit or credit card

We are working on giving you access to pay registration fees, pre-K snack fees and jean day passes prior to the start of meet and greet. We will send out a message once it is active.

You will need a card to purchase spirit shirts, the day of meet and greet 

🐊 Changes in Enrollment

If you have a student that will be new to our school and you have not yet completed the enrollment process please do so as soon as possible. You can do so at the School Board website by clicking on the online registration button underneath the pictures all the way to the left. You may also come by and pick up a registration packet.

In both cases, we will need a withdrawal packet from the previous school

If you child is a current student and they will be transitioning to a different school for the upcoming school year, please come by the school as soon as possible to complete a withdrawal packet. This packet will be necessary for you to enroll your child at a new campus.

Please complete these this week if possible so that we have an accurate enrollment count. This is especially important as it relates to staffing.

Cankton Elementary is still accepting Pre-K applications for the 2026-2027 school year!

 Applications can be submitted online by utilizing the link below or a paper packet can be picked up from the main office at the school.

Applications and required documentation must be turned into the School Board office in Opelousas. Once the application and all required documents are submitted, the child will be scheduled for testing.

We currently have around 5 available spots to fill our third section. Our goal is to have a fourth pre-K section! This 4th section will be able to accommodate up to 20 additional students! We will only be allowed to have this 4th section if we have enough applicants! (we were able to have a 4th section this past school year ☺️)

The child must be four years old by September 30th to qualify! 

Please don’t hesitate - Get your application in today!

As a reminder summer meal pick-up is tomorrow, Monday, June 22nd.

Pick-up has shifted to the park in an attempt to assist with traffic.

Please enter the second driveway (coming from downtown Cankton) (runs behind the stage) and loop around to the limestone area in front of the gate.

‼️Do NOT block driveways, businesses , or the road - violators will be ticketed and no one wants that!

Distribution is from 9:30-11:00

Please ensure that you have pre-registered and have your QR code ready to scan.
