Did you know that social interactions play a key role in helping students develop the wide array of complex cognitive abilities required for reading?

Learning Pods provide students with high quality interaction with both their teacher and peers. Through social interaction and small-group learning activity, your child will begin to integrate specific knowledge and skills gradually as they participate in meaningful, hands-on practice of those skills.

Learning Pods are our twist on tutoring and enrichment. Students receive an initial assessment for baseline data and individualized lessons to foster their strengths and support their needs.

This small-group approach gives students the opportunity to share their thinking, encourages curiosity, and builds confidence.

You may now register for our 6-week session of Spring Learning Pods starting this April! 🌱

And as always, thank you for allowing me to Teach What Matters Most. 🫶

Connection is key. 🔑

As a teacher, I try to find little ways to connect with my students on a personal level. I try to make them feel like they are a part of my “family”.

It makes a world of difference. 🌎

I share the big things and little things (within reason) that are going on in my life. They know a little about my husband, a lot about my dog, they know I try to exercise often, they know I had a hard time focusing as a child (and even as an adult at times).

Studies have found that children with quality teacher relationships were better able to concentrate, explore the environment, and ask adults for help. 👏🏽

So, when you hear me ask my students what nail polish I should go with next, it’s not because I can’t make that decision on my own. It’s because I am building relationships in ways that go beyond reading and math.

A more reserved girl came up to me the next morning and asked, “Mrs. Franklin, what color did you go with?” 💕

“Oh wow, that’s really pretty!” she said. And we both smiled and made eye contact. We connected.

Let’s not forget to talk about the little things, the pretty things, the silly things. Because that is where the magic happens. 🫶

Have a great day, friends! Xo

CREATING A PAUSE

So often in terms of children and young people who struggle to manage their emotions and subsequent behaviours it is an issue with impulse control (one of the reasons for taking a full executive function profile before starting work).

Connect 4 is such a great way for teaching a child to stop and think - and you can really see progression over the course of 6 weeks or longer.

IN THE RESOURCE STORE

I CAN STOP AND THINK - CREATING A PAUSE

Based on the STOP method - STOP/TAKE A BREATH/OBSERVE/PROCEED.

Creating a pause is important for managing emotions because it allows us to step back, gain perspective, and respond to situations more effectively.
When we create a pause, we give ourselves the opportunity to become aware of our emotions. This self-awareness is crucial because it helps us identify and understand what we are feeling, which is the first step in effectively managing our emotions.
By taking a pause, we can regulate our emotions more effectively. It gives us a chance to assess the intensity of our emotions and choose how we want to proceed.

This pack comprises two prompts plus a child friendly explainer.
