🍎🧼 Food Safety in Action at CVMS!
Mrs. Alfeld’s seventh- and eighth-grade students welcomed guest speaker Cory Powell from the Mahoning County Health Department last week for an informative lesson on food safety and sanitation.
Students learned about proper handwashing, safe cooking temperatures, food sanitation, public food service standards, and common reasons restaurants may receive health code violations. Through an engaging PowerPoint presentation and real-world photos, Mr. Powell helped students understand what safe food handling looks like — and what it shouldn’t look like!
Thank you to Mr. Powell for sharing his knowledge and helping our students connect classroom learning to real-life skills! 🖤

🎃🔬 Science and teamwork at CHC!
Miss Graziano, a Kent State student teacher working in Miss Viets’ fourth-grade classroom, guided students through a hands-on experiment using the scientific method.
After researching and observing two pumpkins, students formed a hypothesis that Pumpkin B would have more seeds. Working together, they scooped, gathered, and counted the seeds to test their prediction and discovered their hypothesis was correct! The experiment ended on a tasty note when Miss Graziano roasted the pumpkin seeds for students to try. A fun way to turn scientific curiosity into a hands-on learning experience! 🖤

🎶 Chaos in the Community begins!🎶
Cardinal Chaos performed its first gig of the season last Tuesday evening at A La Carte Catering! Thanks to generous CEIF grant funding and the assistance of Mr. Malich, our students gained new equipment and the opportunity to learn about jazz, sound production, and new instruments.
In just six weeks, under the direction of Mrs. Mullins, they mastered a six-song jazz set and wowed their audience with their talent, humor, professionalism and Cardinal pride! 🖤❤️
We’re so proud of these students and excited to see where Cardinal Chaos goes next as they continue sharing their music throughout the community.

Each Friday, we share a financial fact to help our community better understand how Canfield Local Schools is funded, how we spend taxpayer dollars, and the financial challenges facing our district.
An effective millage rate reflects the tax rate actually collected after property value changes and applicable tax-reduction formulas are applied. This differs from the voted millage rate, the original rate voters approved.
For example, the 5.9-mill levy originally passed in 2013 is currently collecting the equivalent of just 3.65 effective mills. Canfield has the 6th-lowest effective millage in the county.

The gym buzzed with energy today as our stellar seventh- and eighth-grade girls took on some athletic staff members in the annual Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game! 🙌
This fun PBIS celebration featured a concession stand, plenty of cheering, and lots of school spirit! Shout-out to 7th-grader Gavin Haus for singing the National Anthem!🖤❤️

🎓 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: MADISON TERLIZZI | CLASS OF 2018
Madison is finishing her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at Slippery Rock University. She hopes to turn her love of the outdoors into a career and spends her free time volunteering with two fly-fishing organizations that use the sport to make a difference in people's lives.
Through Casting for Recovery, Madison helps support women recovering from breast cancer through the therapeutic benefits of fly fishing. She also volunteers with Project Healing Waters, which provides fly-fishing opportunities and support for veterans and disabled veterans. 🎣
While at CHS, Madison played softball and fondly remembers Friday night football games, especially the excitement of going undefeated during the regular season her senior year!
When asked about a favorite teacher at CHS, Madison named Mrs. Angelo.
We love seeing our Cardinals pursue their passions and find meaningful ways to make a difference. We’re proud to call Madison a Cardinal! 🖤
