Just want to let everyone know my dad passed about 1:30 this morning. We are glad he is no longer suffering and is with the lord now. Tell your love ones you love them you never know when they will no longer be there to do so.

For those of you that don’t know on Black Friday I got my dad to go to the hospital (after the chiefs game of course) for stroke like symptoms. We took him to Bartlesville and they did a CT of the brain and found a mass. He was transferred to St John’s in Tulsa and they did brain surgery to remove the mass. He was in the hospital for 17 days and we found out he has Glioblastoma of the brain which is a very rapid growing cancer and can not be cured. We started radiation treatment in Bartlesville and he was supposed to have chemotherapy done also but due to elevated liver enzymes he can’t do chemotherapy. Plus he has liver cancer and was supposed to have that surgically removed before we found the brain cancer. We got him to 11 treatments going every day but he got extremely weak. We were no longer able to get him in the car to get him to treatments. It has also spread to his lung and his lymph nodes behind the liver. During this we found out he’s diabetic and 2 weeks ago his sugar was over 600. We had to call the ambulance to take him to the hospital. He was in the hospital 4 days and we had to make the decision to put him on hospice. He is at home where he wanted to be in the first place. My mom and I are at his side along with our family and friends. Please pray for him and our family thru this difficult time.

Jamie Lorene Capps-Short entered in the arms of her loving Father on December 16, 2022 at the young age of 56.

Karen Louise Watson

Karen Louise Watson of Eureka, died on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 78.

She was born on January 10, 1944, in Caney, Kansas, the daughter of Howard and Mariam (Wagner) Kennedy. She was raised in Caney and graduated from local schools, before advancing to Pittsburg State University. She completed a Bachelor of Education and nearly completed a master’s degree. On February 14, 1964, Karen was united in marriage to Bill Dean Watson, in Nowata, Oklahoma. They made their home in Caney. To this union, three children were born. Karen was a primary school teacher and would do first grade or second grade. The family later lived at Goodland.

The family moved to Eureka in 1981 and Karen was a teacher at Severy. She retired in 2004. She was a member of the Caney Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of the home; their children, James and wife, Nancy Watson of Eureka; Brian and wife, Kristin Watson of Abingdon, Maryland; and Jennifer and husband, Matthew Peterson of Clay Center; five grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Kennedy, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at
