As drought intensifies, many farmers are deciding to harvest drought-stressed crops for livestock forage. In some areas of the state, farmers have already harvested small grains as hay.

While these crops can be a valuable resource for livestock producers short of forage, North Dakota State University Extension specialists warn that there is an increased risk of nitrate poisoning with many drought-stressed forages. https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/news/newsreleases/2026/august/drought-brings-increased-risk-of-livestock-nitrate-poisoning

THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for the 2026 Towner County Crop Improvement Association Field Day!

We were excited to welcome approximately 60 producers and agribusiness professionals for a morning of learning, networking, and discussion on topics impacting agriculture in northeast North Dakota.

Attendees heard updates on precision agriculture and drone research, saline and sodic soil management, the Towner County wheat variety trial, and enjoyed a live demonstration of the Ceres Air Black Betty agricultural drone by Pro Ag Solutions, LLC.

A sincere thank you to our presenters, sponsors: Legacy Cooperative, CenDak Cooperative, and First United Bank, and everyone who helped make the event a success!

We appreciate your continued support of local agricultural education and look forward to seeing you at future Towner County Crop Improvement Association events!
