Hello, my name is Melinda Miller. My family and I moved to Asheville seven years ago, and we absolutely love calling this community home. I am the proud mom of two wonderful children—one who attends Enka High School and one who is currently in college.

I have worked in the field of special education for over 25 years, a career that has been incredibly rewarding and has allowed me to support, encourage, and make a difference in the lives of students and their families.

I am especially excited about the opportunity to work as a Title I Reading Assistant this year. Helping children strengthen their reading skills, build confidence, and discover the joy of reading is something I am truly passionate about.

I am looking forward to becoming part of the Candler Elementary School family. I truly believe this will be an amazing school year!

Hello, everyone! My name is Haylee Johnson, and I am so excited to be joining Candler Elementary as a 4th grade teacher this year! 🍎📚

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Appalachian State University and am currently taking courses through UNC Charlotte to earn my teaching certificate. After graduating, I worked as a preschool assistant, where I discovered my passion for working with children. I also had the opportunity to work as a 1st grade assistant at Leicester Elementary, an experience I truly enjoyed.

I am especially excited to be joining Candler Elementary because I get to return to the school where I attended elementary school myself! It feels so special to come full circle and begin this new chapter in a place that holds so many memories for me. ❤️

When I’m not at school, I enjoy reading, taking walks with my dog, and spending time with family and friends.

We would like to welcome our new 4th Grade Assistant, Mrs. Moncada!

Hello CES families.

My name is Naomi Moncada, and I am so excited to be joining the 4th Grade teaching Assistant at CES!

Originally from England, I spent 17 years working in the English education system, both as a teacher and in school leadership, primarily in a Preparatory School. Education has always been a huge part of my life, and I have a real passion for helping children learn, grow in confidence, and enjoy their time at school.

My husband, our three children, and our two puppies moved to Asheville 18 months ago, and I feel incredibly lucky to be starting this exciting new chapter at CES. I am so excited to get to know the students, families, and staff, and to be back doing what I love!

Outside of school, we love spending time together as a family, watching and playing sports, exploring North Carolina, and making memories. And, of course, I’ll always be happy with a good cup of English tea!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year, getting to know you all, and working alongside all the wonderful children, families and staff.

Welcome to the CES Ms. Workman!

Hello everyone! My name is Briannah Workman, and I’m so excited to be joining you for a wonderful school year! I’m originally from Columbia, SC, and recently moved to Asheville. This will be my fourth year teaching Special Education.

Outside of the classroom, I love spending time outdoors and making memories with my family and friends. I’m so excited and hopeful for all that this school year has in store! I can’t wait to get to know each of you and have an amazing year together!

Meet CES Title I Lead, Maureen Keller.

I fell in love with Asheville in 2012 and consider myself the luckiest lady in the world to call this home! I live here with my family and the house is filled with the sound of purring from the three fur babies. When I am not snuggling with the cats, I can be found in my yard experimenting and learning about landscaping.

Fun facts about Ms. Keller:
🐾I like tubing in the summer, hiking in the fall, skiing in the winter, and gardening in the spring!
🐾I have a Masters Degree from Webster University. Go Gorloks! It is a mythical creature made up by WU. The face of a St Bernard (dependable), Horns of a buffalo (fierce), paws of a cheetah (speedy).
🐾I have been a substitute teacher, a classroom teacher, a reading interventionist, an MTSS coach, and a Title I Lead.
🐾I became a reading teacher because I overcame Dyslexia and want to help others who struggle with reading.
🐾The best part of teaching is watching a student get excited about learning!
