CANBY SCHOOL DISTRICT serves 85 square miles in the heart of Clackamas County. The district educates approximately 4,800 students and provides educational services to diverse populations and geographic attendance areas. CANBY SCHOOL DISTRICT has nine schools: Eccles, Knight, Lee and Trost Schools serve students in grades K-6; Carus serves rural K-6 students; Ninety-One serves rural K-8 students; Baker Prairie Middle Schools serve grades 7 & 8; and Canby High serves grades 9-12.

We hope you’re still enjoying the summer, but we can’t help but think about school. We’re excited to welcome students back on August 31! In case you missed it, attached are the elementary and middle school supplies lists.

CHS does not have a specific school supply list. It is recommended that students arrive with a backpack, 3 ring binder with paper, and writing utensils. Each class will hand out a syllabus with specific classroom supply requirements during open house, the first week of school, and again at the beginning of each trimester.

Update: 9/11 Memorial Relic Relocation & 25th Anniversary Ceremony

Dear Community and Families,

In 2002, Ackerman Middle School students, working alongside community leaders, first responders, elected officials, and numerous organizations, helped bring a relic from the World Trade Center to our Canby community. Through collective efforts, the memorial was established in the Peace Garden at Ackerman Middle School, where it has served as a place of remembrance, education, and reflection for students and community members alike.

The relic was recently relocated to the Canby Police Department Headquarters, which serves as a fitting and more visible home where the memorial can continue to inspire reflection and remembrance for generations to come. Since the closure of Ackerman Middle School in 2011, there has been continued community conversation around the potential relocation of the relic. The Canby Police approached the Canby School District with a request to relocate the relic to a more prominent location that would both preserve its visibility and honor the role of first responders on September 11, 2001.

We will be reaching out to community members and retired staff who played a role in obtaining, transporting, supporting, funding, installing, or dedicating this memorial more than two decades ago. We invite you to attend the rededication ceremony celebrating the relic’s new home at the Canby Police Department Headquarters.

This event will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, honor those who lost their lives, recognize the service and sacrifice of first responders, and celebrate the collective efforts of the many individuals and organizations who helped create this memorial in 2002.

We are grateful for the continued investment in this important chapter of our nation’s history.

Next time you’re in downtown Canby, stop by Le Nest Design to check out the newly completed art mural painted by fifth- and sixth-grade students under the direction of art teacher Nate Clausen.

A note from Nate on the project:
I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside a group of talented fifth and sixth grade student artists on a community mural in collaboration with a local business owner. Together, we designed and painted a vibrant mural of wildflowers, transforming a blank wall into a colorful piece of public art that celebrates the beauty of our community.

This project was so much more than painting a mural. It gave our students the chance to experience what it means to be artists who make a meaningful contribution beyond the classroom. They practiced collaboration, creative problem-solving, perseverance, and craftsmanship while working together with a community partner who truly valued their ideas and talents.

Watching our students take such pride in their work was rewarding. Seeing community members stop to admire the mural, ask questions, and encourage the students, reminded me just how powerful the arts can be in bringing people together. It was a wonderful example of the connection between our schools and the Canby community.

I am incredibly proud of our students and grateful to Le Nest owner Shelley Prael for believing in this project and opening her space for our young artists. Experiences like this showcase the creativity, kindness, and dedication that our students bring to everything they do, and we were able to finish and showcase the mural for First Thursday Kids Night.

I hope this mural serves as a bright reminder of what can happen when schools, local businesses, and students work together toward a shared vision. My ultimate goal would be that other business owners can contact our district so that our students can create more vibrant murals all around Canby. Please stop by and see the mural when you have a chance. It’s MUCH better in person.
