🍁Hello October. We’re already feeling the Fall shift—shorter days, cooler breezes, and the gradual color change in the leaves. But what’s actually happening at the molecular level? 🌿🔬

As daylight decreases, trees reduce their chlorophyll production, allowing other pigments like carotenoids (responsible for the oranges and yellows) and anthocyanins (creating those vibrant reds) to take the spotlight. 🍂 This transformation is not just beautiful—it’s a critical part of the trees’ preparation for winter dormancy.

This stream ecology lab was held at a site on the Green River near Greensburg. Students worked in a team setting to assess various aspects of the instream physical habitat of single river reach at that location. Data such variables as stream depth, width, velocity and substrate size was collected at this site.
