So who is Sarah Gettys of anyway?
She currently teaches private voice and piano lessons at the studio she founded, both in-person in Campbell, CA and all over the country online. (We would say “world” but we don’t actually have any international students yet!).
Sarah is an expert at inspiring her students, drawing out each person's intuitive musicality while offering feedback and suggestions that bring their musicianship and expression to the next level.
She enjoys teaching people of all ages, and has stories to tell about teaching people who were as young as two and a half to as old as ninety-two.
She’s taught privately, in schools, and at the community college and university levels.
Before moving back to the Bay Area in August 2014, she taught at the School for Music Vocations (Southwestern Community College) in Creston, Iowa. Her subjects included classical and jazz piano, ear training, and directing vocal groups and choirs.
She also has a special love for vocal technique .

We believe in building foundational skills, techniques, and knowledge in a friendly, supportive environment while having a great time.
Because fun and play are not distractions, but rather, fun and play enhance learning and focus.
The studio workshops are examples of this value in action at Sarah Gettys Music Studio.
What’s a workshop?
Workshops are informal performance opportunities where students gather and share with one another music that they are working on.
They happen both in-person and via Zoom.
Family and friends are welcome to come, but only performers share their comments (because you know what says about being in the arena).
After each musician performs or sings, the other performers share something that they appreciated about the performance.
This accomplishes two things: students get to practice having conversations about music, possibly learn new musical vocabulary, and students get to learn what people appreciate about the way that they perform.
Why positive remarks only?
Because appreciation works better than criticism for improving and/or changing personal behaviors and ways of thinking. (I learned about this from , who learned it from and ) .
And it’s exhilarating to perform and then be received by a group of people who are really excited to tell you everything they liked about your music.
At our workshops, we build the foundational skills of stage presence and performance experience, while at the same time have tons of fun hanging out together, listening to live music, and sharing appreciation for one another.
Join us next time!

It’s time to learn how to play the music you love.
At Sarah Gettys Music Studio, we offer passion-centered, student-centered private music lessons for singers, pianists, guitarists, and drummers!
Our lessons are catered to all ages and levels of experience across many genres of music, including pop, new age, classical, jazz, R&B, funk, blues, folk, and rock music.
Unfortunately, the way that music lessons are traditionally taught can make learning and practicing a real chore.
Students are often stuck learning outdated curriculums that may or may not interest them. Perfectionist, shaming, and judgmental teaching methods cause students’ self-esteem to plummet.
Popular songs are learned outside of the regular lesson time and are certainly not a focus of the lessons, and that’s if music chosen by the student gets any airtime at all.
We’re here to change that.
Our methods are geared toward bringing devotion, inspiration, creativity, and joy back into the music lesson, so that all of our students, no matter the age, are cultivating a lifelong passion for music.

At Sarah Gettys Music Studio, we believe deeply in the value of play at all ages and stages of musical development. Whether you’re just starting out or have cultivated your skills over years, playfulness can deepen musical flow state, which is documented to build mental strength and confidence and release stress. We find that prioritizing the goals of enjoyment and relaxation alongside the goal of skill-building can fast track our students’ growth and, perhaps even more importantly, promote our students’ positive association with musical study. If, rather than sites of perfectionism and criticism, our students experience their music lessons as safe spaces in which to express themselves freely, they are much more likely to continue to play music for years to come. We are growing the studio led by our dedication to this vision, and have a few spots left for new students. We would love to be a part of your musical journey! Are you an adult with music in your spirit, but traumatic memories of music classes from your childhood have prevented you from getting back into it? You are not alone. So many adults come to us saying that a single stinging comment from a choir director, private instructor, or family member lodged into their mind at a young age, and has gotten in the way of their creative growth. Competitiveness, punitive methodologies, perfectionism, and scarcity mindsets have historically run amok in classroom settings, and unfortunately music education is no exception. The good news is, it is never too late to write over those painful memories and to celebrate your own creativity. We believe in radical encouragement as a fast track to musical development. We offer music lessons that are student-centered, focusing on your own musical passions rather than an outdated curriculum and an equally outdated pedagogy. We believe in building foundational skills, technique, and knowledge in a friendly, supportive environment, while having a great time—because we find that fun and play don’t distract, but rather enhance a focused flow state. Cultivate your love of music with a teacher who cares. https://sarahgettysstudio.com/lessoninfo
