Our One School, One Book initiative is off to a great start! This week, our Baby Eagles are enjoying Here’s Hank! We’re excited to see our students reading, making connections, and bringing the story to life.

Our 1st grade students took the experience a step further! Not only did they read the story, but they also enjoyed some of the characters’ favorite treats and used bookmarks featuring their favorite characters as they read. What a fun way to make reading meaningful and memorable!

Parents, be sure to ask your child to tell you about Here’s Hank. We would love to hear what they have learned and what they are enjoying most about the story. Drop some of the things they share with you in the comments!

Our 2nd grade students are building strong number sense as they learn to use a number chart to find 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, and 10 less. Not only are they finding the correct numbers, but they are also explaining their thinking by identifying which direction to move on the chart. Right for 1 more, left for 1 less, down for 10 more, and up for 10 less. We love seeing our students use math vocabulary, explain their reasoning, and grow into confident mathematicians!

📈🦅 Our Baby Eagles are SOARING!

We are excited to celebrate the incredible growth reflected in our 2025–2026 K–2 district data! Our youngest learners made meaningful gains in reading and math, building a strong academic foundation for continued success. ❤️💙

These results reflect the hard work and commitment of our students, teachers, staff, families, and school leaders who work together each day to help every student grow.

Guided by Superintendent Dr. Veronica Brown’s vision of soaring toward success, we’re proud of the progress—and we’re just getting started! This year, we will continue building on this momentum, strengthening foundational skills, and Rallying the Eagles toward even greater growth and achievement! 🦅📚✨

Hello, MCPS Family!

This is a friendly reminder that it’s time for our first i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment of the school year! This assessment is an important opportunity for our Baby Eagles to show what they know and helps our teachers better understand each student’s strengths and areas for growth.

i-Ready Diagnostic Schedule:

Math: August 10 & 11
Reading: August 12 & 13

Parents, please help us set our Baby Eagles up for success by making sure they are well-rested, arrive at school on time, and are present each day of testing. Encourage your child to take their time, do their very best, and remember that we are already proud of them!

Together, we can help every Baby Eagle start the year strong and SOAR toward success!

Every smile, every new friendship, and every lesson learned has helped our Baby Eagles feel welcomed, safe, and ready to learn.

We hope everyone enjoyed their sweet treats as we celebrated an incredible first week together. Here's to a year filled with learning, growth, kindness, and unforgettable memories. We are excited to watch our Baby Eagles SOAR all year long!
