Preview of 2023 Mitchell County Eagles

As the 2023 football season approaches, the Mitchell County Eagles are determined to build upon their experiences from last year's first-round playoff loss. In 2022, the team closed the season with a 4-6 record, securing the number three seed in Region 1-A (Division Two). They demonstrated a competitive spirit during each game while averaging eighteen points per game on offense and allowing only nineteen points per game on defense.
The new season presents both challenges and opportunities, as the Eagles face the task of filling the significant void left by seven graduating seniors, many of whom were key two-way players. However, the team can rely on the experience of several returning starters. Among them are Senior Dontavius Johnson, showcasing his talent at Outside Linebacker and Fullback positions, Senior Jackson Johnson, who stands strong on the Offensive and Defensive Line, and Junior DJ Campbell, displaying versatility as Quarterback and Wide Receiver.
To test their abilities early in the season, the Eagles will face non-region opponents in their first four games, taking on the Monroe Tornadoes, Worth County Rams, cross county rival Pelham Hornets, and the Brooks County Trojans. These early matchups will undoubtedly provide valuable insights into the team's offensive and defensive capabilities.
The 2023 Season will kick off with a Fall Scrimmage against the Westover Patriots from Albany, Georgia, scheduled for August 4th at 7:30 P.M. This will set the stage for the regular season, commencing on August 18th, as the Eagles face the Monroe Tornadoes at the renowned "EAGLES NEST" at 7:30 P.M.
With determination and a roster of promising talent, the Mitchell County Eagles are primed to soar to new heights this season. Fans can expect an exhilarating and action-packed football experience as the team vies for success on the gridiron.
