It is FINALLY done!

I have been working on, and testing, these new daily phonics slides for MONTHS. I wanted to make sure that they would be truly helpful to other pre-k and kindergarten teachers!

My students’ assessment scores on letters and sounds really improved after using these slides for each letter. Students that could recognize 15-18 letters could also give 12-16 sounds!

I felt so good knowing they were going to Kindergarten with some good letter and sound knowledge under their belt!

I crammed a ton of skills into 20 slides for each letter.

⭐️ letter formation video

Research shows that teaching letter names and sounds together is the best way to insure that your students make those important connections.

➡️ to see 3 📸 I will treasure.

If you have a teenager, you know how difficult it is to get them in a picture. I have very few pics of the three of us!

Said teenager snapped some photos of me being silly with the littlest. Like most moms, I am typically the photo taker so this is so nice to have!

I think we needed this little trip just the 3 of us. We get so bogged down in our routines at home. This was a really refreshing way to reconnect.

Now I am really looking forward to our family trip to in July!

Soo…I need to apologize.

I haven’t been on IG in months. In fact I have been anxiously avoiding IG for months.

I’ve had a tough year, emotionally speaking.

A little back story…

I’ve always been good at keeping a smile on my face, even when things are tough. I use humor and cheerfulness to move attention off me and my issues. It has made me a very successful early childhood teacher, even when things are falling apart.

4 years ago my husband died. I fell apart. But I put the pieces back together for my kids. For my job. Kept a smile on my face. Faked it. Because looking and acting normal was easier than talking about how not normal I was feeling.

This year I felt like I was juggling so many things as a solo working mom that I couldn’t handle all of it AND faking it. I started cracking around the edges. I stopped talking to my friends, stopped doing things that made me feel good, stopped feeling creative or engaged with work, and stopped paying attention to my teacher business and my IG community.

And then I felt guilty about neglecting those things. Couldn’t figure out how to restart after so much time. Couldn’t find the words to explain where I had been and was afraid of the responses.

Depression sucks, man.

So, anyway - I am on what I like to call my Apology Tour - where I apologize for being a distant friend, daughter, sister, colleague, and businessperson.

I am working my way back to myself.

Cranberry sensory activity for the sand and water table!

This is a popular activity in my classroom this week. Just a bag of fresh cranberries and fresh water. I added some droppers, cups, slotted spoons, etc.

This is one of those activities that allows pre-schoolers opportunities to explore sink and float, volume and capacity, etc.

Also ties in nicely with our mini unit on holidays!
