Number one is the correct answer! A highball means that you’re good to go. It originated from a pole signal that was next to railroad tracks and had a white sphere that was attached to its end. When the sphere was in the air, it meant you could continue unimpeded.

Have you ever wondered where the term “horsepower” came from? In a way, the railroad! A Scottish inventor named James Watt was improving the steam engine and decided he needed a term to convey how powerful his enhancements were. He calculated how much power a mill horse could produce and used that as a unit people could relate to. While scientists have found that his estimates were too high, the gist of the measurement was genius enough to still be used today, over 250 years later.

Did you know that trains were a key part of winning the Civil War? Lincoln used the railroads to send much needed artillery and relief troops long distances. One soldier transport was the longest and fastest transport of the 19th century. Railroads were so powerful that thousands of confederate rail miles were destroyed in efforts to sabotage the southern efforts. Thank goodness for railroads or we may not have been the country we are today!

He is sought after by many companies to help them establish and train contract flagging, short line engineers and industrial rail operations engineers and trainmen.
