The UPRT Network’s Accredited Primary Instructor (API) and Spin Accredited Instructor (SAI) designations give CFIs an opportunity to demonstrate training and proficiency beyond the minimum certification requirements. These credentials recognize instructors who are committed to improving their knowledge of aircraft control, stalls, spins and upset prevention. They also show students, flight schools and fellow instructors that the CFI values recurrent training and continued professional development.

The API designation helps CFIs incorporate stronger upset-prevention concepts into everyday instruction, including energy management, stall recognition, coordination and sound decision-making. The SAI designation identifies experienced CFIs who have demonstrated the knowledge, judgment and flight proficiency needed to provide meaningful spin training consistent with FAA guidance and UPRT Network standards. Both designations help instructors become more confident and better prepared to teach skills that are often underemphasized in traditional flight training.

For CFIs, an API or SAI designation can also provide a meaningful professional advantage. It offers a way to differentiate yourself, strengthen your résumé and attract pilots seeking higher-quality training. Through a national directory and referral network, credentialed instructors can gain greater visibility and connect with students, flight schools and UPRT providers. Most importantly, becoming an API or SAI allows a CFI to directly support a larger mission: better-trained instructors creating safer, more capable pilots.

It was a pleasure to be in the airplane when Michael reached 1,000 flight hours! I think we were in a three-turn spin at the time. 😊

Congratulations, Michael—what a memorable way to hit an incredible milestone!

We're proud to announce that Foothill Flight Center has been accredited by the UPRT Network!

The UPRT Network is leading the effort to raise the standard for Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) in general aviation. By identifying, promoting, and maintaining best practices, the Network is building a community of accredited providers dedicated to delivering professional, standardized, and effective UPRT that makes pilots safer.

What makes this especially meaningful to us is that we began this journey with no prior UPRT experience. Every step of our development—from our first introduction to UPRT, through our instructor training and mentorship, to earning accreditation—took place entirely within the UPRT Network under the guidance of its accredited providers.

We encourage every pilot, instructor, and flight school to learn more about the UPRT Network and the important work it is doing to advance UPRT throughout general aviation.

Back in 2007, I earned my initial CFI spin endorsement from Lisa. Recently, she came to us for his spin proficiency training. Aviation has a way of coming full circle.

We recently had one of those “opportunity of a lifetime” experiences in aviation.

Chuck Wahl of Vultures Row Aviation at Cameron Park — where he and his talented team restore the legendary F4U Corsair — trusted us with something very special: helping train his kids in their newly restored T-34B Navy Mentor.

Watching the next generation of pilots grow has been amazing. Colby earned his Private Pilot Certificate on his 17th birthday — an incredible accomplishment and a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Carly, already a Private Pilot with both single-engine and multi-engine ratings, continued pushing forward and earned her Commercial Pilot Certificate.

And we couldn’t think of a better person to administer the checkrides than Pete Reddan — retired U.S. Air Force instructor pilot. His experience, professionalism, and passion for aviation made him the perfect fit for such a special milestone.

A huge congratulations to both Colby and Carly. Thank you Chuck for trusting us with your family and allowing us to be a small part of this incredible aviation journey.

Some airplanes have amazing histories — and this T-34B is now helping create the next chapter.
