Congratulations to the Sorrow family, they were one of the ten winners from the Parents as Teachers 2023 survey. So proud of your accomplishments in the program. Unfortunately, mom was ill but Dad steps up every time to take care of his family. I look forward to continue working with you 2023 - 2024 program year. Kershaw County Parents as Teachers program like to thank the parents who came out to our monthly group meeting. We thank Absolute Total Care for their support in sharing information to parents about health and safety, and new information about health insurance for families. Thanks to the Camden Fire Department and Camden Police Department for coming and sharing safety tips with our parents and distributing safety materials to our children. It was a very successful meeting. Thank you Parent Educators, Jessica Clea and Tammie Smith for all you do.

The SC Senate finally got to H3428 First Steps Reauthorization around 10:10 pm.

Senator Malloy from Darlington moved to override the Governor’s veto. Senator Sheheen spoke in favor. They called the role and the support came loud and clear with only two nos. Thank you, the children of SC will benefit.....

Early Literacy

It is critical to help young children be ready for school by working with them to develop early literacy and learning skills. Because strong reading skills form the basis for learning in all subjects, it is important to identify those who struggle with reading as early as possible. Children who have been read to at home come to school with important early literacy skills. They are prepared to learn to read and write. Children who have not had many experiences listening to books read aloud or talking about books typically start school with poor early literacy skills.
