October 1 - 2A Geneseo Regional Valley View Club - Cambridge Maple Leafs Finish 2nd Overall - Advance As A Team To Sectionals

🏌️‍♂️ IHSA Class 2A Regional @ Valley View Club – Geneseo Recap
The Geneseo Maple Leafs turned in a strong team performance at the IHSA Class 2A Regional at Valley View Golf Club, securing a 2nd place team finish with a combined score of 318, earning a spot in the IHSA Sectional round.

🌟 Team Highlights:
Team Finish: 2nd Place
Total Team Score: 318
Geneseo finished behind only Ottawa (302), outperforming Morris (349), LaSalle-Peru (350), and several other schools.

🔝 Top Individual Performers:
Kwin Vankerrebroeck (SR) – 77 (T-3rd overall)
Drew Kelly (SR) – 79 (5th overall)
Ashton Veloz (SR) – 80 (6th overall)
Brody Clementz (SR) – 82 (T-9th overall)
Four Geneseo players placed in the Top 10, and all four counting scores were in the low 80s or better — a balanced and competitive team effort that helped punch their ticket to Sectionals.

🏆 Moving On:
With this 2nd-place team finish, the Maple Leafs advance to the next round of postseason play, continuing their strong season with momentum.

Wow! What a way to end the month of Gold for pediatric cancer awareness! So amazing. The Boys Golf Team FILLED a cart of toys that will be delivered to the Brantley Francis Foundation. The Boys Golf Team were also able to make just over $500 to donate to BFF, too. This was a combination of the merch order and donations at the meet! Truly was a memorable night! All of this will help so many families facing the impossible.

Geneseo Golf – Sterling Invitational Review
Date: September 27, 2025
Event: 54th Annual Sterling Invitational Golf Tournament
Host: Sterling High School
Location: Emerald Hills Golf Club

Team Performance:
The Geneseo Maple Leafs put together a strong showing at this year’s Sterling Invitational, finishing 3rd overall in a competitive field of teams. With a team score of 325, the Leafs trailed only Port Byron (307) and Rochelle (318), both of which had excellent rounds.
This top-three finish demonstrates the team’s consistency and depth, particularly against a field full of talented Class 2A and 3A programs.

Individual Highlights:
Kwin Vankerrebroeck (SR) led the charge with a stellar 74, which placed him 2nd overall individually — a standout round in a field of over 50 golfers. Kwin’s performance helped anchor the team’s top-three finish and showed his ability to compete at the highest level.
Brody Clementz (SR) posted a solid 81, showing strong course management and focus throughout the round.
Drew Kelly (SR) contributed a steady 83, and Kellen Vankerrebroeck (SO) shot an 87 rounding out the scoring for the team.

Final Thoughts:
The Sterling Invite was a valuable test and a great opportunity for Geneseo to compete against strong teams from across the state. The team’s 3rd place finish is a testament to the hard work being put in during the season, and a clear indication that the Leafs are trending in the right direction as postseason play approaches.
Special recognition goes to Kwin Vankerrebroeck for his individual runner-up finish, which helped elevate the team into trophy position.

Geneseo Golf Dual Meet Recap: Geneseo vs. Sherrard
The Geneseo Maple Leafs had a dominant showing at their dual meet against Sherrard, finishing in first place with an impressive team score of 158, outpacing the competition by a wide margin. Geneseo’s varsity squad finished 23 strokes ahead of the next closest team—Geneseo JV (181)—and a full 33 strokes ahead of host Sherrard’s varsity (191).

🔰 Varsity Highlights
Leading the charge for the Maple Leafs was Kwin Vankerrebroeck, who fired a stellar 37, earning him medalist honors. He was closely followed by Drew Kelly with a solid 39, while Brody Clementz and Kellen Vankerrebroeck each turned in consistent rounds of 41. Grady Bernahl (42) and Ashton Veloz (46) also provided strong depth, helping seal the team’s commanding victory.

Though competing as the JV squad, their performance was strong enough to surpass both Sherrard varsity and JV teams.
