Arlene Fiore, the Peter H. Stone and Paola Malanotte Stone Professor at EAPS, is studying the way air pollutants move through the environment and how long they last. But she isn’t stopping there: she’s also making sure her research is available for other agencies to use so they can incorporate climate policy into their own work.
“What we found is that small tweaks in, for example, the metrics we use to convey the science findings, can go a long way to making the science more usable, especially when there are detailed policy frameworks in place that must be followed,” says Fiore. Read more here:

Did you know? MIT’s Cecil and Ida Green Building, a.k.a. Building 54, was dedicated on this date in 1964. It was designed by the late I.M. Pei ’40 and for more than half a century was the tallest building in Cambridge, Massachusetts. (The new Kendall Square at MIT Site 4 building currently under construction recently became the tallest.) Home to the MIT Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences — not to mention quite a few inspiring window treatments — the Green Building is about to get a $60 million facelift of its own: A planned upgrade will add about 12,000 square feet of new space for meeting places, classrooms, and study areas.

Happy birthday Dad!
Home to the MIT Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, I.M.Pei finished my construction in 1964. I have 18 floors and stand 295 feet (90 m) tall, making me the tallest building in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Pei is among the world's most noted architects, and received his bachelor's degree from in 1940.
