I kept hearing the same advice 🚶: take calls while walking, buy a treadmill desk, squeeze in more steps somehow. But realistically, for a lot of people, that’s a huge ask. So I looked at the research instead — and the answer was unexpectedly funny.
Studies suggest that walking inefficiently — exaggerated movements, higher steps, awkward swinging motions like the Monty Python “silly walk” — can dramatically increase energy expenditure in the same amount of time 🧠. In other words, your body benefits when movement becomes less optimized and more challenging ✨.
