Today we experienced a day full of ideas, experiences, and contributions from outstanding professionals, gathered to continue strengthening MEF's mission around identity, culture, languages, and Maya traditional dress.

Our commitment is to support MEF scholars in the best way possible, strengthening their Maya identity and helping them grow into citizens who are proud of who they are.

Because when our young people embrace their Maya identity, the future of our communities grows stronger too.

What would Sandy Davis say if he were to meet these inspiring young professionals today?

Today would have been the birthday of Shelton H. Davis (aka Sandy) a deeply loved activist, anthropologist and indigenous rights advocate who supported MEF for many years. Today, Sandy's friends, family and peers continue to donate in his name, providing access to scholarships in healthcare and social sciences and inspiring future generations of Maya students to succeed.

From dream to reality

Thanks to the support of MEF and Grupo Cajolá, Dr. Jacqueline López reached a goal that transforms not only her life, but also her community: becoming a healthcare professional.

"What you planted in me has borne fruit, and my greatest wish is for that fruit to keep multiplying through service, education, and social commitment."

Her story reminds us that when we invest in the education of Maya youth, we invest in the future of Guatemala.

On June 20th, we held the Student Gathering with recipients of the Programa de Becas Mayas in collaboration with CIRMA.

It was a space for connection and learning, where we shared activities including a panel discussion, workshop tables, and exhibitions — all designed to strengthen the bonds among our scholars.

We were also honored to have the MEF Board of Directors join us for this important gathering.

Getting closer to our students every day fills us with motivation to keep moving forward. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible!

Women in Science Transforming Communities

Tomasa, a scholar of the Maya Educational Foundation (MEF) and a Biology student, carried out a community project focused on the biology and conservation of pollinators in Aldea Cholá, Guatemala.

Through both theoretical and hands-on workshops, children, youth, and families learned about the importance of pollinators in ecosystems and in our daily lives. Participants also took part in planting species that help attract and protect pollinators.

This project not only strengthened scientific knowledge within the community, but also inspired curiosity, environmental awareness, and a commitment to protecting biodiversity.

At MEF, we believe in the power of education to create real impact in communities.

We proudly congratulate Marco on his graduation as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer! 🎓 Marco is from San Andrés Semetabaj in the highlands of Guatemala and is a native Kaqchikel speaker.

At MEF, we are filled with joy to see our scholars achieve their professional and personal goals through hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Christian, a MEF scholar and Archaeology student, is sharing knowledge about maya glyphs with his community in Uspantán, Guatemala, strengthening pride in Maya identity and promoting the protection of its ancestral heritage. At MEF, we believe in young leaders who transform their communities and build a better future rooted in their culture.

Each year, scholars from the MEF Mayan Scholars Program, in collaboration with CIRMA, carry out community projects in their communities, applying the knowledge they have gained at university to create impact and strengthen local development.
