Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue The Ikeda Center is an institute for peace, learning, and dialogue located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Since 1993, the Ikeda Center's core practice has been to engage scholars, students, spiritual practitioners, social innovators, and others in openhearted and open-minded dialogue in pursuit of a shared vision for future progress and well being. To this end, we organize and conduct seminars and public forums designed to cultivate the "humble willingness to learn from others" that Center founder Dai

saku Ikeda identifies as "profoundly meaningful, invariably fostering deep, empathetic connections." We also publish dialogue and other multi-author books focused on this same goal of creating a shared vision for global well being.

This week, you heard what our panelists are looking forward to exploring at our annual Ikeda Forum on Fri, 9/25 @ 7pm. Finally, let’s hear from our moderator, Mr. Bhuvan Ravindran, Nature & Climate Policy Professional and Founder of ARGO! He shares:

“I am seeking to explore avenues of education for global citizenship in daily life, to answer questions like: What does it mean to be a global citizen? Why is it important? What can I do to nurture those qualities amidst a busy schedule? What are some concrete actions I can take? But more fundamentally, I hope that we empower each other to decentralize global peace as a culture of dialogue between two people who are brimming with unconditional respect for each other. This dignifies even ordinary and seemingly uninvolved people into protagonists for a peaceful world.”

We hope you will join us for our 22nd Annual Ikeda Forum on Fri, 9/25 @ 7pm! Ahead of the event, we asked our esteemed panelists what they are looking forward to exploring in their discussion. Dr. Gabrielle Oliveira, Jorge Paulo Lemann Associate Professor of Education and of Brazil Studies, Harvard Graduate School of Education, shares:

“At this year’s Ikeda Forum, I look forward to exploring how dialogue can help people engage across political, cultural, and religious differences without losing sight of one another’s humanity. I am especially interested in how listening to stories can challenge stereotypes, build empathy, and strengthen respect for human dignity. I also hope to consider practical ways students and community members can transform these ideas into action—such as creating more inclusive spaces, advocating for better policy, addressing injustice, and responding to conflict with understanding rather than division.”

Friday, 9/25 @ 7pm!

The forum will feature esteemed panelists Dr. Timothy McCarthy of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Kennedy School and Dr. Gabrielle Oliveira of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and will be moderated by Mr. Bhuvan Ravindran, Nature & Climate Policy Professional and Founder of ARGO.

They will examine key ideas from Center founder Daisaku Ikeda’s 1996 address at Teachers College, Columbia University. In the address, Mr. Ikeda says the following about global citizenship:

“Over the past several decades, I have been privileged to meet and converse with many people from all walks of life, and I have given the matter some thought. Certainly, global citizenship is not determined merely by the number of languages one speaks, or the number of countries to which one has traveled. I have many friends who could be considered quite ordinary citizens but who possess an inner nobility; who have never traveled beyond their native place yet who are genuinely concerned for the peace and prosperity of the world.”
