We were incredibly disappointed by Governor Murphy’s decision to “pocket-veto” the Montessori teacher certification route bill after it was approved unanimously by the NJ legislature. We are working to learn more, and it’s our full intention to support efforts to work with his office on their concerns in hopes it can be reintroduced this session.

And we know that regardless, we have already succeeded in elevating Montessori teachers in the state. Montessori teachers were on the minds of 120 legislators who all cast their votes in the affirmative over the past few months!

1/9/2024 • Trenton, NJ • New Jersey recognizes Montessori training for state licensure 1/19/2025 • Trenton, NJ • The state of New Jersey will recognize Montessori credentials for teacher licensure under a new bill.

Bill A4689 passed the Assembly unanimously this afternoon! The bill gives Montessori teachers a path to a NJ state teaching license that could help address the teacher shortage and pave the way for public Montessori. We're so excited it has now passed both Chambers unanimously and is off to Governor Murphy's desk!
