This is so true and definitely the case with my children. This is a photo of my son and niece deeply absorbed in making a cake from elderflowers, grass and sand.

Maria Montessori wrote that, when an adult steps in to “help” a child, what they are really doing in many cases is interfering with the child’s development. The activity is interrupted, and the child may avoid the “difficult” activity in the future. ✋ Instead, the adult should create the environment that allows the child to work independently. Some features of the Montessori environment include:
