Family Cooperative
Newtowne is a cooperative venture of families, teachers and children. At Newtowne, families participate in the following ways:
• Family jobs: Every family has a job, ranging from roles in school management and administration to fundraising, enrollment and classroom maintenance.
• Classroom help: Families are encouraged to help out in the classroom periodically, sharing their i
nterests and family traditions with the community. Classroom helping allows families to be actively involved in the classroom and to gain insight into their child’s world.
• Newtowne events: The school holds community-building events to foster relationships among families and relies on help from families at school fundraising events and at the annual Spring Fair.
• Work days: Twice each year, families come together at the school to help teachers clean and prepare the classrooms for the children.
• Family learning opportunities: Families participate at least twice in sessions designed to expand knowledge about child development, learning, schools, and other topics relevant to young children’s education and well-being.
