Work in Process Wednesday! Episode 10: Youmna M. Chamieh ’22

Chamieh’s short stories blend autobiographical elements with fiction, allowing her writings to emphasize emotional and psychological truths over strict factual retellings. Her process often begins with a real memory or image, which she transforms into crafted vignettes. Each of her stories, according to her, stand alone rather than exist in chronological order. Major personal and global events alike inspire her symbolic and cathartic style of writing. www.youmnamelhemchamieh.com.

Work in Process Wednesday! Episode 7: Allison Charney Epstein ‘89 🎤🎼💿

Charney Epstein is a GRAMMY® nominated soprano and classical music producer. Her 2025 nomination recognized ALIKE: My Mother’s Dream, which “invites listeners to hear beyond conflict and discover connection through sound.” Her longtime collaborator, friend and fellow Harvard alum, Benjamin Loeb, was also nominated for his work on the album.

This seven-track album features the first ever English language recording of Jephthah’s Daughter, composed by Amy Beach. Beach’s music has been part of Charney Epstein’s life for decades: studied, performed and deeply admired. She uncovered the long-lost Beach work hidden in a graduate dissertation. Driven by curiosity and serendipity, she tracked it down and brought the handwritten score to life with a new orchestration.

The GRAMMY® nominated album, ALIKE: My Mother’s Dream, is available on all music streaming platforms.
