Thanks

I certainly don't say it enough, but the "Farming Community" in Cambridge, from large to small operations, has done so much to help me over the years. Animal advice, borrowing equipment, lending a hand, a source of feed or bedding, sharing a good story and a laugh...not to mention the strong support of our FFA Alumni Association. Couldn't do it without all of you.

Thank you.

Summer School at Severson

A really fun four weeks with summer school students on site. 12 classes were offered this year and we had outstanding staff on hand to make it happen. The goats - and Barney - are ready for a break from all of the attention they've been getting!

A very nice evening with Rural Schools Collaborative during their opening reception last night. RSC is holding their annual Hub Summit in Madison and invited Koshkonong Trails graduate Maddie Roberts and me to speak about the great things happening in Cambridge. We met educators from around the country that are working to promote rural education and community connections.

Farm Day 2026

What a day! All 5K through 5th grade students came out to Severson to learn from our CHS and NMS FFA students. All of the kids - young and old - did just a wonderful job. Huge thank you to Ms. Essock for organizing the students, lessons, busing, lunch, etc. etc. to make it happen and to all of the classroom teachers for supporting agriculture. Our community is very fortunate to have this space and the staff that are willing to make events like this happen.

McKinstry Day of Service

The hard workers from McKinstry of Madison made their annual trip to Severson last week to once again complete a task that I had no desire to do myself. This year it was a new chicken coop (we will be calling it "The Palace"). Without their effort and amazing attitudes, I'd still be digging holes...

Thank you!

Every Day is Earth Day

What a wonderful way to spend Earth Day last week when members of the Nikolay Middle School Service Club traveled - by bike - to the SLC to plant some trees. Two quaking aspen were placed in the far pasture, complete with goat guards. Thank you to Mrs. Holt for organizing the trip, and to the students that did the work!
