Suzanne Brill is a biology teacher at Malden High School and a committed partner of our ACCESS and Access Biotechnology programs at her school.
"Our partnership with MassBioEd has allowed me to offer labs in my biology classes that I otherwise could not have offered. Last month all of our 9th and 10th grade students learned how to perform gel electrophoresis, so that they could determine whether an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria was causing a familyโs strep throat infection. Next month they all will use their newly-minted skills to identify the father of an unexpected litter of puppies by tracking the inheritance of hair-length alleles. These labs are genuinely interesting to my students and have helped to reinforce essential concepts from the curriculum."
"We have been thrilled with the results of our partnership with MassBioEd this year. The programming is exciting, relevant, fun, and accessible, and the educators truly are experts! They are approachable, warm, and adaptable. They work hard to tailor what they can offer to what our school community needs; they are genuinely invested in us and have made many meaningful connections with Malden students. We canโt wait to see what the next year brings!"

๐๐๐๐ญ Sarah Benat.
Sarah connected with MassBioEd early in her teaching career. She is now a lead science teacher at Brighton High School in the Boston Public Schools, teaching biology to multilingual learners.
"MassBioEd has been a true pillar in my teaching career. I was first connected with MassBioEd in my third year teaching - a time when I was nervous to try new labs and shaky on how to explain sophisticated protocols to students. Michelle, Whitney, and Maggie from the MassBioEd team came to my classroom, mentored me, modeled their practice and helped me build the necessary confidence I needed to engage all my students in biotechnology. Now, I am mentoring pre-service teachers and equipping them to do the same with their future students!"

๐๐๐๐ญ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ค๐.
Jill A. Macoska, Ph.D. is the Director of the Center for Personalized Cancer Therapy, a Distinguished University Professor of Science and Mathematics, the Alton J. Brann Endowed Chair, and Professor of Biology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
She started working with MassBioEd's College to Career program through a chance meeting with MassBioEd staff outside the UMass Boston Chancellor's office in 2021.
"An idea exchange in the atrium of the Integrated Science Center led to several Life Science Career Expos that allowed interactions between hundreds of students and scores of Life Sciences career volunteers followed by dozens of students traveling to industry labs to gain first-hand knowledge of that working environment. Through these College to Career programs our students are much more aware of, and better preparing for, careers in the Life Science industry. I now incorporate career awareness into my student teaching and advising activities, and I love seeing the consequent 'eyes opening' and excited questioning that follow. I am so very grateful that MassBioEd and our industry supporters, like Takeda, want to help our students on this career journey, and so happy to be part of that process."
