The MIT Black Students' Union was founded in 1968 to provide Black students on MIT's campus with an avenue to gather socially, affect political change on campus and abroad, and to benefit the MIT and greater Boston Black communities through various forms of service and enrichment.

Hi, I’m Tiwa. I am a 18/6-7 double major, and a language enthusiast. I live in Chocolate City and hope to interface with an even greater part of the black community during my time on BSU exec. I’m looking forward to helping the Black Students’ Union achieve all of its goals and more this year!

Hello Everyone! My name is Stacy Godfreey-Igwe and I am a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering (concentrating in Sustainability & International Development). I am a member of iHouse — a community dedicated to social justice, development, and community outreach. In addition, I am a mentor through Tutoring Plus of Cambridge and a coordinator for the ACE FPOP. As Secretary, I am excited to facilitate communication on behalf of the MIT BSU and promote the many opportunities available to its members.

Hey my name is Devin Johnson. I am a Sophomore in Course 16, and a brother of Chocolate City. Outside of the BSU, I am involved in Sakata Afrique, and Class Council, both of which I very much enjoy. As Attorney General, I am excited to bring together and improve the state of the black MIT community through CABS (Council for the Advancement of Black Students) and any other way necessary to strengthen the bonds between us all.

Hello loves! My name is AudreyRose Wooden (she/her/hers) and I’m a tentative 21E (6-1 and Comparative Media Studies) in the class of 2021. This year I’m serving as your Political Action Committee CoChair! My passions lie at the intersection of technology, storytelling, and education. I have an enormous amount of love for the greater black community but especially the one I’ve been introduced to while at MIT (students, faculty, staff, and alumni alike). I’ve been on the Political Action Committee since my freshman fall, I’m also involved in NSBE, BWA, and volunteering with the Haley House in Boston and Cambridge School Volunteers at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. Rooted in our history, I have an exciting vision for our future and want to work alongside each of you to bring it to reality. Hello! My name is Kendyll Hicks and I am serving as the BSU’s Social and Cultural Co-Chair this year. As a senior majoring in Computer Science and Molecular Biology, I am interested in studying medicine and public policy with the goal of eliminating health disparities in the US and abroad. I am excited this year to create BSU programs that bring people together in a meaningful and memorable way. Outside of the BSU, I’m involved in GlobeMed, a national global health advocacy organization, and StartLabs, MIT’s undergraduate entrepreneurship group. We are pleased to announce that our speaker for Ebony Affair 2019: Where this Flower Blooms is the incredible Dr. Cortlan J. Wickliff, Esq. Among many other accomplishments along his unique journey, Dr. Wickliff became the youngest engineer in the nation when he graduated from Rice University at age 19, then became one of the youngest African-American graduates of Harvard Law School when he graduated at age 22.
