We want to give a huge congratulatory Shout Out to LVMC Registered Nurse Alexa Berryman on completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at California State University Channel Islands.
Alexa originally began her career in healthcare working at LVMC as a Certified Nursing Assistant, before taking time off to attend nursing school. Once she became a Registered Nurse, Alexa returned to LVMC and has been working for 1 1/2 years in the Emergency Department as an RN.
“Earning my BSN will not change my current job, but it gives me more opportunities to grow in my career in the future,” she explained. “Getting my BSN was important because I wanted to continue growing as a nurse and provide the best care possible to my patients. It helped me build more knowledge, improve my critical thinking skills and prepare for future career opportunities.”
Alexa said she has wanted to be a nurse since she was a small child.
“When my great-grandma was on hospice, I helped my aunt care for her when I visited, and that experience made me realize nursing was the career I wanted,” Alexa said. “I enjoy working in the Emergency Department because every day is different. It is fast-paced and challenging and I like working as a team, thinking quickly and helping people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.”

🎓 Last week, nursing faculty from Allan Hancock College came together for a three-day professional development workshop in partnership with California State University Channel Islands. Over three days, faculty explored best practices in online and hybrid course design, experienced hands-on virtual reality simulation through Embodied Labs, and dove into AI tools for nursing education, including live demonstrations of ChatGPT, Claude, and CSUCI's own Mahi-Bot using PlayLab. Grounded in the CSU Quality Learning and Teaching framework and INACSL simulation standards, this workshop is part of a growing partnership committed to strengthening the pathway from AHC's ADN program to the CSUCI BSN. Proud of what we learned and shared together. 💙
