Florida-Friendly Landscaping Crash Course for 4-H Youth!
Join us at the UF/IFAS Nassau County Demonstration Garden and help make a difference in our community while learning valuable gardening skills.
Youth will receive an educational lesson on Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) and work alongside trained Master Gardener volunteers to cultivate and beautify the UF/IFAS Nassau County Demonstration Garden.
What You'll Do
✅ Help with weeding and garden maintenance
✅ Learn about Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL)
✅ Gain hands-on gardening experience
✅ Earn community service hours
✅ Meet new people and have fun outdoors
Who: 4-H’ers 11–18 years old
Where: Yulee Extension Office, 85831 Miner Road, Yulee, FL 32097
When: September 6th
Time: 5–7 p.m.
4-H membership required.
Parents: Parents are welcome to stay and participate or drop their 4-H’er off for the program.
What to Wear/Bring: Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Consider bringing bug spray, a reusable water bottle, and gloves, as we will be outside.
Note: 4-H and Nassau County Master Gardeners will not keep track of individual service project hours. It is the responsibility of the youth to bring any required documentation for their hours to be verified.

Cool season grasses include oats, rye, and cereal rye. You can plant them by seed as soon as mid-October (Oct 15th) to early November in North Florida. Get the most out of your field by testing out different cool season cover crops! We also sample the soil to find out if you need lime.

🐝🌼 Join the Great Southeast Pollinator Census! 🌼🐝

Looking for a fun and meaningful activity with family and friends? Join the Great Southeast Pollinator Census on August 21-22, 2026! Spend just 15 minutes observing pollinators in your garden, neighborhood, or local park and contribute to an important citizen science project.

This can be a wonderful gathering with family and friends and a great opportunity to help children become familiar with the importance of pollinators and the role they play in our ecosystem. It is also a chance for all of us to slow down, enjoy some quiet time outdoors, and be reminded of how amazing nature truly is as we watch bees, butterflies, and other pollinators at work.

We are propagating turkey tangle frogfruit (phyla nodiflora) to give away at our in-person classes!

Unlike many turfgrasses, frogfruit requires little to no mowing once established. Its creeping stems readily root wherever they contact the soil, allowing the plant to naturally fill bare areas and form a low-growing groundcover. This makes it an excellent choice for difficult-to-maintain areas around ponds, pathways, and naturalized landscapes.

As a low-maintenance soil builder, frogfruit typically requires little to no fertilizer or mowing once established. It is a perennial, evergreen groundcover, meaning it returns year after year while maintaining green leaves throughout the year. It also shades the soil surface helping to retain moisture and moderate soil temperature. This creates a favorable environment for soil organisms by maintaining living roots year-round, which release compounds that feed beneficial soil microbes.
