Our Model United Nations team had a great time at our first conference of the year (and the students’ first conference ever)! They served as delegates from India and Australia on committees including the UNESCO committee on combatting AI misinformation, the UNEP committee on ocean acidification, and the crisis committee on the 1932 Australian emu wars. Students learned a lot about negotiating, problem solving, public speaking, and global economics and politics while making many new friends and having a lot of fun. To top it all off, one of our delegates won an award for her contributions to her committee!

Today was the first day of classes at Homeschool Campus, and we kicked it off with British Literature. Students learned about the Anglo-Saxons, the influence of invasion on culture and language, and the basics of epic poetry. Next week, we’ll compare excerpts from several different translations of Beowulf, try our hands at deciphering some Old English, and dig into the best-selling translation of Beowulf by the great Irish poet and translator Seamus Heaney.

Homeschool Campus, where I teach, will be holding a Welcome Day/Open House at each campus next week! I won’t be there, sadly, as I’ll be traveling, but you can meet many of the other instructors who teach with HSC, mingle with other HSC families, view the campuses (we’ll have new classrooms at the Fountain Valley campus you can see!), and get your questions about homeschooling answered.

Exciting news! All of our high school English and history/social studies classes are now approved for A-G credit with iLead charter schools! Numerous other charter schools also give A-G credit for our classes. If we're not listed on your California charter school's A-G vendor list, please contact us. We would be happy to apply.
