Some of the parents of estranged adult children have apologized and have taking accountability, have also asked what can they do going forward because nothing can change the past. They have explained they are not the same parents that got it wrong, because their are no perfect people. Even when the parents get it wrong it doesn't mean it was intentional. However the child will only hold on to the wrong and never give credit for what was right. So when you see a child stop dealing with their parents, its always the parents fault that's not always the truth. Sometimes the apology and accountability is not enough. Sometimes its time for the healing ro start with the child. Once a parent apologize, and try to explain and take accountability its takes both parents and child to say let's start from here and if we need a therapist to mediate let's do it. I know adult children that are not willing to heal or hear anything beyond their thoughts. Yet the child think cutting ties is healing. It's not its a from of punishment and control especially when grandkids are in involved. Or when those same grandparents are not a harm to their grandkids. This is the case for so many people, and it is so sad to see it. It create more trauma and more toxicity. Nobody wins in this.
