October is National Principals Month, and Gordon County Schools is proud to recognize the dedicated leaders who serve our schools each day.
Carmen Massengill is in her 28th year as an educator and her 1st year as principal of Gordon Central High School. For Mrs. Massengill, serving as principal is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in the lives of students and help make their high school experience a positive part of their story.
What she values most about the role is the chance to help students feel supported, encouraged, and believed in. She hopes that years from now, students will look back on their time at Gordon Central and remember the people who helped them feel confident in themselves and their future.
Gordon Central is especially meaningful to Mrs. Massengill because of the strong connection many faculty and staff members have to the school. Gordon Central is more than a workplace; it is a place where people grew up, graduated, and were shaped by their own experiences. That connection creates a strong sense of pride and commitment to giving back.
She is also proud of the close-knit culture at Gordon Central. The school is small enough that students and staff know one another well, and that sense of connection helps create an environment where people support, celebrate, and look out for each other.
One message Mrs. Massengill wants every student to understand is that they matter and belong at Gordon Central. She hopes students always remember that there were people in their school community who believed in them and wanted to see them succeed.
Outside of school, Mrs. Massengill enjoys supporting her family. Her husband is Steven, and their children are Brodie, a sophomore at Georgia Southern, and Brynn, a freshman. She enjoys watching Brynn compete in volleyball and tennis, cheering on Georgia Southern with Brodie, and traveling. She is also an early morning CrossFit regular and can often be found at the gym by 5 a.m.
During National Principals Month, Gordon County Schools is proud to recognize Carmen Massengill for the care, commitment, and sense of connection she brings to Gordon Central High School each day.
