Our yearbook staffers are practicing their interviewing skills by getting to know more about our teachers at SHS. Meet today's featured teachers: Student Teacher Morgan Bagley and Math Teacher Susan Stone:

Mrs. Stone:
What inspired you to become a teacher? – “I was tutoring in the college dorm with the girls in my hall, and they needed help in math, so it inspired me to change my major to help other students like them.”

What is your favorite subject to teach and why? – “It’s now geometry. It’s a subject I’ve been teaching for years, and it's grown into something I began to love, and I really enjoy teaching it.”

Can you share a memorable moment from your teaching career? – “ I love building relationships with the students. It’s nice to see them and their growth over the years and remembering all the fun times we’ve shared.”

What hobbies or interest do you have outside of school? – “I love taking pictures of a lot of things, and I like sewing.”
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? – “ Definitely Greece, I love the pictures I can get from there, and the beautiful scenery.”

Mrs. Bagley:
What inspired you to become a teacher? – “I’ve always wanted to become some sort of teacher, but actually the main reason I chose math was because of my 11th grade math teacher, Mr. Martin, really inspired me to do secondary math education.”

What is your favorite subject to teach and why? – “Out of what I’ve seen this semester, mine is also geometry, but I’m excited to teach middle school math next year!”

Can you share a memorable moment from your teaching career? – “Teaching at Sonoraville for the first time and seeing the students that I taught my first semester coming back to say, hey the next semester, and that’s really what stands out to me.”

What hobbies or interest do you have outside of school? – “I like to sing, and I like to write and draw.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? – “I want to go to Alaska, because I want to take an Alaskan Cruise.”

As part of their yearbook class requirements, yearbook students have to learn interviewing skills. In addition to interviews for our yearbook stories, students are sharpening their interviewing skills by talking to our faculty and staff. Join us for this edition of the SHS faculty/staff spotlight as we learn more about Nurse Sandy Barton!

Q: What schools did you go to, and what degrees do you have?

A: “Initially, I went to Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta. Then I got my Bachelor's degree at the University of Phoenix. From there, I got my Master’s at University of West Georgia in nursing and education.”

Q: What inspired you to become a school nurse out of all the options you had?

A: “I like to work with kids and teenagers. I've worked in the emergency department and I was just ready for something a little different. This gives me sort of an emergency room combined with a clinic type of setting; that’s what I enjoy.”

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring nurses?

A: “Take all the biology classes you can take in school, as well as math. Also take the healthcare science pathway; it’s a big help.”
